Professor Graham Durant AM

Graham’s citation for the Faraday Club Award:

Graham Durant has taken demonstrations into the theatrical domain, combining them with new media and turning science shows into stunning visual performances.

Graham is the Director of Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra, Australia. He is a geologist with a passion for volcanoes and all things geological: he is a dedicated walker and an accomplished canoeist and diver.

After graduating with honours from The University of Wales, Aberystwyth, he completed a PhD in petrology and geochemistry. At the University of Glasgow he was Deputy Director of the Hunterian Museum before getting the science centre bug and founding the Glasgow Science Centre. He moved to Questacon in 2003. He received the Order of Australia (AM) in 2012 for services to science education, to the museums sector, and through scientific advisory roles.

Graham is particularly well known for large, demonstration-based multimedia theatrical presentations. He delights in the spectacular and had been responsible for bringing together people who can deliver exciting and memorable science shows.
